What Size HVAC System is Right for Me?
The type of HVAC installation you need depends on a couple of factors, including:
- The size of your home & total square footage
- The age of your home
By looking at these factors, our team can determine which HVAC system will be most efficient. Your home’s age is important because a newer home is better insulated and can handle a smaller system. In general, an undersized system is better than an oversized one. This is because smaller units can typically hook up to most types of home ductwork. This way, you can avoid a complete overhaul of your home’s current ductwork. Additionally, an oversized system can cause the motor or other parts to burn out prematurely.
Can I Keep My Current Ductwork?
In most cases, yes. Normally, the size of a new HVAC installation is based on the size of your current system and the presence of any ductwork.
We help you determine which HVAC installation suits your home and family’s needs best. Schedule a consultation with one of our installation managers or appraiser to receive a proper assessment and answers to your installation questions.
What Should I Look for in an HVAC Installation Contractor?
Before you move forward and work with a particular HVAC contractor, you need to make sure certain criteria are met. At Precision Air, we adhere to the following guidelines to ensure your HVAC installation is always high-quality and your experience with our team is unmatched.
- Licensing, Bonding & Insurance
- Professionalism
- Responsiveness
- High-Quality Workmanship
- Permit Compliance
What Do I Need to Know About HVAC filters?
Your HVAC filter needs to be changed regularly. We recommend changing your filter every three months or so, or as often as needed. Some high-quality filters will last 4 to 6 months. If you are using standard filters or have pets or allergies, consider changing your filter more often.
What Type of HVAC Unit Should I Get?
There are a lot of different HVAC products to choose from. If you already have a conventional duct system, gas furnace, or heat pump, we typically recommend staying with the same system when you upgrade with a new HVAC installation.
If you have an electric baseboard or electric heating system, it is best to upgrade with a ductless HVAC installation. Ductless systems are more efficient and a better alternative to electric heating systems. We also offer rebates for these types of HVAC installations or upgrades.
What Type of Thermostat Would You Recommend?
For your new HVAC installation, we recommended the NEST thermostat. We offer these thermostats free with any furnace or AC package. NEST thermostats bring convenience and control right into the palm of your hand. You can easily control your HVAC system using an app on your phone or tablet that connects to your NEST thermostat.
While you are at work or on vacation, you can adjust your thermostat settings to turn on or off through the NEST app. Additionally, on cold winter nights, you can adjust your HVAC system while lying in bed right from your phone. What could be better or more convenient than that?
What is the Installation Timeline Like?
The length of time it will take to set up your HVAC installation properly depends on the system you choose. In most cases, HVAC installations only take one day. Mini-split systems, for example, only take a few hours or so to complete depending on how many mini-split units you install. With ductwork installations, a brand new duct system will usually take 3 to 4 days to complete.
What is the Total Cost of HVAC installations?
The cost of your HVAC installation will depend on the size and brand of the unit you install and whether or not new ductwork is needed. Learn more about what kind of costs you can expect for your HVAC installation on our HVAC costs page.
Does Precision Air Offer Financing?
Absolutely! We do everything we can to help you save money on your HVAC installation, including offering special financing through Foundation Finance Company LLC. Learn more over on our Financing page or contact our team at (503) 878-1255.
How Often is Maintenance Needed?
The answer to how often you receive maintenance on your HVAC installation heavily depends on the system you have and, in some cases, who you ask. In our experience, we have found that keeping up with simple, affordable do-it-yourself maintenance (like changing the air filter frequently) can extend the unit’s longevity.
For the first 3 years of your HVAC installation, you can likely get away with minimal maintenance and periodic filter changes before more in-depth, professional maintenance is needed.
After you have owned your new HVAC installation for several years, regular maintenance should be performed every 6 months, right around Spring and again in the Fall.
When is the Best Time to Replace My HVAC Installation?
The best time to replace your HVAC installation is after 15 to 25 years. Depending on your maintenance schedule, the quality of your system, and other factors, you should consider a replacement when your system is around 15 or 20 years old.
